From your first sand shaker to automated gold lines — start in the right order.
Sandustry does not hand you a traditional tutorial — it hands you a shovel and a planet. The guides below follow the order the game actually unfolds in: learn the dig-wet-gold loop, pick up the hotkeys and systems knowledge that save hours, then go deep on the liquids and production chains that define the mid-game. Every guide links to the next, so start at the top and read your way to a working factory.
About
Sandustry is a falling-sand automation game from indie developer Lantto Games, published by Hooded Horse. You arrive on a fully destructible planet where every pixel is a resource.
In practice that means the materials are the machines: sand piles up and flows, water runs downhill and boils into steam, lava melts through your floor unless you freeze it into cinder first. Your job is to turn that physics into production - sift gold from wet sand, spend it on research, and rebuild the planet as a factory one conveyor at a time. It entered Early Access on August 13, 2026 and sits at 97% positive on Steam after its first week.

Sandustry launched into Early Access on August 13, 2026 on Steam, GOG and the Microsoft Store. The developer expects Early Access to last about a year, and the 1.0 version is planned to add richer procedural generation plus new buildings, resources, production chains, quests, biomes and technologies. An exact 1.0 date has not been announced.

In some ways — it shares Factorio's automation and production chains, but adds falling-sand pixel physics: the whole world is destructible, and every pixel can be mined, mixed and processed. It's also single-player only.
Yes. The community has built a mod loader (Fluxloader) and Steam Workshop mods are available in Early Access. There's no stable official mod API yet, so mods work by replacing game files.
The list price is $14.99 with regional pricing. A 35% launch discount (about $9.75) ran on Steam and GOG through late August 2026. The developer has said the price may rise as Early Access content is added, so the launch window is the cheapest it's likely to be.
Yes. Steam lists separate system requirements for Windows, macOS (12+) and Linux, and the minimum specs are modest - a decade-old mid-range PC clears them. There's no official mobile version; the browser demo on itch.io is the closest thing.
First-week reception: 97% positive across roughly 1,500 Steam reviews, with two patches shipped (a hotfix on August 14 and Update #1, v0.5.4, on August 17). The developer is actively working through crash reports and takes feature requests on the Nolt feedback board.
