Where Can I Play Sandustry: All Platforms
Where can I play Sandustry? On Windows, macOS and Linux, through four stores, plus a free browser demo that runs on almost anything. The game launched into Early Access on August 13, 2026 across all of these at once:
- Steam - the main store page (app 2764460), with achievements, cloud saves and Workshop mods.
- GOG - open for sale since launch week; DRM-free, same content.
- Microsoft Store - the Xbox store product page (Sandustry, Game Preview), PC only.
- PC Game Pass - included with the subscription from day one. See the Game Pass guide for what that includes.
What's not on the list: Xbox, PlayStation and Switch consoles. No console version has been announced - every store page lists PC platforms only. The game is also single-player only, which the multiplayer guide untangles.
Play Sandustry Free: The Browser Demo
You can play Sandustry without buying anything. The developer hosts a free browser demo - an HTML5 build that runs in a browser tab - on the official site (sandustry.com) and the developer's itch.io page. There's also a standalone free demo app on Steam if you prefer to keep it in your library.
One honest caveat: the demo is an older build. The Early Access version is a rewrite of the simulation with more machines, more research and a redone movement system, so treat the demo as a taste of the loop rather than a slice of the full game. The demo guide lists exactly what differs.
Sandustry Operating Systems and Languages
All three desktop platforms have official support - Steam even lists separate system requirement sheets for each:
- Windows (minimum): Windows 10 64-bit, Intel Core i5-4670K or AMD FX-8100, 4 GB RAM, GTX 550 Ti 1 GB or Radeon HD 7750 1 GB, DirectX 11, 1 GB storage. Recommended bumps to an i5-9600K or Ryzen 5 1600, 8 GB RAM, and a GTX 960 4 GB or RX 570 4 GB with DirectX 12. An SSD is recommended on both tiers.
- macOS: macOS 12 Monterey or newer.
- Linux / SteamOS: has its own minimum and recommended rows on the Steam page.
Those are modest requirements - a decade-old mid-range gaming PC clears the minimum. The browser demo runs on basically anything with a modern browser, which makes it a quick compatibility test for older machines.
Language support is unusually broad: Sandustry ships with 23 interface languages, including English, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal), Russian, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Turkish, Ukrainian and the Nordic languages. All of them cover interface and subtitles; there's no full audio dubbing.
Which Store Should You Buy Sandustry From?
Each store has one clear differentiator:
- Steam if you want Workshop mods and the biggest community - most mod installation guides assume Steam.
- GOG if you want a DRM-free installer you keep regardless of the client.
- Microsoft Store / PC Game Pass if you already subscribe to Game Pass (play it "free" as part of the sub) or you want Xbox achievements and Gamerscore.
Prices were identical across stores at launch - $14.99 list with the same 35% discount window - so the store choice comes down to features, not price. Current numbers are in the price guide, and avoid third-party key resellers for a game this cheap on sale.
Which Version Do the Sandustry Guides Assume?
One practical note since you're planning where to play: guides on this site - and most community content - assume the Steam Early Access version on PC. That's where the Workshop mods live (see the mods guide), where the 16 achievements are tracked, and where the patch cadence is easiest to follow. The GOG and Microsoft Store versions run the same game with the same content, so nothing here will mislead you; only the mod installation route differs, and the mods guide flags where that matters. If you're playing through PC Game Pass, everything except Workshop mods applies exactly as written.
And if your machine is on the older side, the browser demo doubles as a compatibility test: it runs the same fundamental simulation (in its older demo form) in a browser tab, so if it's playable, the full game will be comfortable. The demo guide explains what the demo does and doesn't include.
Can You Play Sandustry on Mobile?
There's no official mobile version. Nothing from the developer or publisher mentions Android or iOS builds, and no store page lists anything but desktop platforms. The browser demo can technically load in a mobile browser, but it was not designed for touch - no native mobile game exists. If you see an app store listing claiming to be Sandustry, it's not the real game; stick to the official demo links.
